About the funder

The Umweltstiftung Weser-Ems is a private and independent foundation under civil law based in Oldenburg, founded in 1989 by Gertrud and Werner Brunken. With an initial capital of approximately EUR 3.6 million (as of May 2025), it supports measures in the Weser-Ems region aimed at preserving the natural environment, protecting animals and plants, and promoting environmental precaution, education, and information. The foundation supports competitions, scientific events, research commissions, consumer and professional information, as well as renaturation and habitat development projects. Funding is awarded twice a year to associations, organizations, initiatives, private individuals, companies, or schools that demonstrate co-financing and serve the foundation’s purpose.

Mission & Vision

To preserve God's creation, the Umweltstiftung Weser-Ems promotes environmental protection in the Weser-Ems region through sustainable projects that safeguard the natural balance, improve animal and plant protection, and strengthen environmental awareness and information.

Target groups

Supported are associations, clubs, initiatives, groups, private individuals, companies, and educational institutions (e.g., schools) active in the Weser-Ems region, who demonstrably and with their own resources engage in projects in the fields of animal, nature, and environmental protection, environmental precaution, or environmental education. Applications can be submitted year-round; funding is awarded twice a year with minimal bureaucratic effort.
