Private foundation

About the funder

The Vera Gerdau Foundation is a non-legal consumer foundation under civil law, founded in 2012 by Professor Werner Lorenz with an endowment of €200,000, and is currently managed as a charitable trust foundation under the umbrella of the Haspa Hamburg Foundation. A voluntary board composed of friends and relatives of the namesake, along with an advisory board, decides on the allocation of funds. The foundation supports committed projects aimed at strengthening and socially integrating disadvantaged children and youth, particularly through the awarding of an annually endowed prize as well as smaller project-related grants.

Mission & Vision

The Vera Gerdau Foundation is committed to supporting outstanding projects that empower children and adolescents and promote their social integration. The focus is on young people who are disadvantaged in their personal development due to physical or psychological conditions or external circumstances such as flight, migration, or social disadvantage. The foundation aims to recognize innovative approaches and contribute to equal opportunities and participation.

Target groups

The funding programs of the Vera Gerdau Foundation are aimed at non-profit organizations, associations, and initiatives committed to children and young people who are on the margins of society. Projects that open up new opportunities for young people with physical, psychological, or social disadvantages are supported—whether through therapeutic, educational, or integrative offerings or through encounters with nature, animals, and the environment. Both larger awards through the annually granted funding prize and targeted individual support are possible.
