About the funder

The Werner Kühl Foundation was established in 1999 by Waltraud Krieghoff (née Kühl) and Lothar Krieghoff. It preserves the artistic legacy of the Syke painter Werner Kühl and supports artists from northwest Germany through the biennial Werner Kühl Prize. Since 2016, the competition has included, in addition to a cash award, a solo exhibition at the Syker Vorwerk – Center for Contemporary Art. The extensive oeuvre of Werner Kühl is exhibited in changing thematic presentations at the Ackerbürgerhaus of the Syke District Museum.
