Description
The program "Removal of Barriers in Existing Housing" of the State of Brandenburg supports construction measures for the subsequent barrier-free adaptation of existing living spaces. The goal is to make access points and living areas barrier-free through ramps, height-overcoming aids, and barrier-reducing modifications. Private individuals, as owners, hereditary building right holders, landlords, or tenants, as well as households in which a severely disabled person with a degree of disability of at least 80 lives, receive a grant of up to 90% of the eligible costs. Up to €12,000 per housing unit can be granted for general adaptations and up to €14,000 for ramp installations and access measures – with a minimum personal contribution of 10% of the total costs. The funding is continuously announced and can be applied for at any time through the Investment Bank of the State of Brandenburg.
A prerequisite for funding is the confirmation of the appropriateness and urgency of the planned measures by the competent authority as well as compliance with the requirements of DIN 18040-2. In rental apartments, a usage obligation for at least ten years must be agreed upon. Measures that are fully financed by third parties, for example through professional associations or long-term care insurance, are not eligible for funding. The application is submitted through a formal procedure with evidence of the degree of disability, a detailed cost breakdown, and proof of eligibility.
