August Joest Foundation

The August Joest Foundation in Berlin has been supporting promising talents and educational initiatives in the fields of art, culture, science, and sports since 2009 with flexible scholarships and project grants. The funding particularly targets children, adolescents, and young adults from disadvantaged families as well as those with a migration background, to enable them continuous access to education and training. As a trustee foundation of the Bürgerstiftung Berlin, the funds are awarded based on an open selection process by an advisory board. Verifiable achievements – such as performances, exhibitions, or awards – are among the evaluation criteria, alongside a clearly structured project plan and a coherent financial requirement. The August Joest Foundation focuses on individual support and ensures that both private applicants and non-profit organizations and educational institutions are eligible to apply.

Applications can be submitted at any time and require an application form, project description, budget or financial plan, letter of motivation, certificates, reference letters, as well as bank details and data protection consent. Eligible expenses include, among others, the acquisition of instruments, remedial lessons, and individual coaching. Experts assess the documents based on talent potential, achievements to date, and the plausibility of the funding requirement. Through this transparent approach, the foundation contributes to strengthening professional talent, expanding cultural participation, and sustainably realizing innovative educational projects – a decisive contribution to shaping a diverse and equitable society for the future.
