Description

The Hamburg Investment and Development Bank (IFB Hamburg) offers an ongoing funding opportunity for the initial barrier-free conversion of owner-occupied residential property in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The measure is primarily aimed at seniors as well as people with physical disabilities who, as owners or legally entitled holders of a home or condominium, comply with the income limits of Hamburg’s housing promotion. The funding objective is the sustainable creation of age- and disability-appropriate living conditions. Grants ranging from 3,000 euros to 20,000 euros per dwelling are possible, with a minimum funding amount of 3,000 euros. Applications can be submitted at any time before the start of the project via the digital e-application portal, whereby planning and consulting services are not considered the start of the measures. Funding is provided from state, federal, and EU funds as part of Hamburg’s housing promotion.

Various individual measures are funded, such as the installation of stairlifts, the redesign of barrier-free bathrooms, the adaptation of sufficiently wide interior doors, the laying of suitable flooring, as well as the realization of step-free access routes. Upon completion, the dwelling must be accessible without steps, a minimum passage width of 80 cm (except guest toilets) must be ensured, and a barrier-free shower area must be implemented. Prerequisites include the use of environmentally friendly building materials, reasonable total costs in relation to service life and utility value, as well as the professional execution of all measures by qualified specialist companies. The funding can generally be combined with other IFB programs and low-interest KfW loans. Timely submission of all required documents ensures prompt review and approval to enable the modernization measures to start as planned.
