Description
The funding program "Barrier-Free Renovation of Owner-Occupied Homes" by IFB Hamburg supports private owners and leasehold beneficiaries in Hamburg in adapting their living spaces to be age- and disability-friendly. Grants ranging from €3,000 to €20,000 are provided for individual measures that ensure barrier-free use of the property. The focus is on stairlifts, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms, sufficiently wide doors, suitable flooring, and step-free access paths. The aim of the funding is to enable older people, persons with disabilities, and wheelchair users to live independently in their familiar environment, and it is continuously available. Applications can be submitted at any time before the start of the renovation measure, whereby planning and consulting services do not count as the start of the project.
Eligible to apply are natural persons who can prove ownership or leasehold rights of a self-used residential property in Hamburg. Another criterion is compliance with the income limits of Hamburg’s housing promotion (maximum 100% exceedance). Only individual construction measures are eligible for funding; costs for planning and consulting services are not subsidized. After submission of the complete application, IFB Hamburg promptly reviews the documents and makes a funding decision. Combining this program with other IFB programs and KfW loans is generally possible. The program invites interested parties to inform themselves early about the requirements and to seek support in preparing the application to optimally realize the barrier-free design of their own home.
