Description
The Educational Bridge of the Helga and Reinhard Werner Foundation continuously supports disadvantaged children and adolescents in the Bremen districts of Mitte and Östliche Vorstadt to promote equal opportunities in education. Through anonymous grants, targeted expenses for school supplies, public transport monthly passes, class trips, as well as music and sports programs are covered. The project cooperates closely with eight local schools and addresses educational setbacks that may arise due to financial constraints. A volunteer trust council reviews the urgency of applications and ensures that each measure directly benefits the eligible students. In this way, sustainable participation in both curricular and extracurricular activities is enabled, shaping the educational path independently of the parents' income.
Eligible for funding are privately registered families with low income whose children attend one of the cooperating schools or have their primary residence there. The evaluation criteria include residence in the specified districts, proof of income situation, and urgency of need. Applications can be submitted informally at any time by phone or email. Eligible expenses include, among others, school materials, tickets, class trips, fees for music lessons, and sports clubs. Through the straightforward application process and transparent selection procedures, the program contributes to poverty prevention and strengthens the educational prospects of young people in Bremen in the long term.
