Citizen Participation for Climate Protection Projects

The state of Vorarlberg offers interest-free grant funding until 31.12.2026 for the preparation and implementation of citizen participation in climate protection projects throughout Vorarlberg. Projects promoting renewable energy generation, energy efficiency improvements, consumption reduction, as well as cooperative mobility solutions to reduce motorized individual traffic are eligible for funding. Eligible applicants include private individuals, SMEs, non-profit associations, municipalities, and public institutions based in Vorarlberg – large companies and energy suppliers are excluded. The funding program makes an important contribution to actively involving citizens in ecological initiatives, building expertise, and removing financial and technical barriers. With an eligible funding volume of a total of €50,000, innovative and democratic forms of participation in local climate protection initiatives are to be strengthened.

The project duration is limited to a maximum of 18 months from the date of application. Eligible costs include, among others, labor for conception and strategic planning, legal and expert consulting, technical assessments, fees, communication, and acquisition costs. The funding rate is tiered from 66% (costs up to €5,000) to 33% (costs up to €15,000); costs exceeding this amount are not considered. For solidarity EEGs, a grant of 80% applies. An initial analysis may begin before application submission; active participation marketing may only start after funding approval. To apply, a project description, detailed cost breakdown, invoices, payment receipts, and a final implementation report must be submitted.
