Federal Funding for Municipal Climate Protection (Municipal Guideline)

The federal funding for municipal climate protection, known as the Municipal Guideline, supports public institutions throughout Germany in the planning and implementation of measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency. Under the leadership of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, municipal authorities and municipal companies are supported with non-repayable grants. A prerequisite for funding is the submission of a detailed project and financing plan. Since the program's inception, applications can be submitted continuously, enabling timely realization of climate protection projects in cities and municipalities.

The Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH, commissioned as the implementing agency, supports municipalities with professional expertise in all funding phases – from application submission to accounting. With over 950 employees at the locations Berlin, Bonn, and Cottbus, ZUG consolidates competencies in communication, monitoring, evaluation, and project management. The funding is aimed at all municipal bodies that wish to develop exemplary climate protection concepts or make existing infrastructures more energy-efficient. The program offers the opportunity to set sustainable impulses in local structures and actively advance climate goals at the municipal level.
