Description
The EU initiative for the prevention of radicalization, extremism, hate speech, and polarization supports transnational research projects that develop robust, evidence-based counterstrategies. The focus is on analyzing online and offline dynamics, examining hate ecosystems, and investigating factors of radicalization. Consortia consisting of at least three independent partners from three EU Member States or associated countries contribute to the practical testing of methods, tools, and technologies for early detection, prevention, and combating of these phenomena. Civil society actors, media organizations, educational institutions, and private platform operators are closely involved to secure access to relevant data and enable effective interventions in the digital space.
The aim is to provide innovative action guidelines, communication strategies, and training materials, for example, to strengthen critical media literacy and develop participatory teaching concepts. Policymakers receive recommendations for legislation and regulation, while practitioners in schools, youth centers, and community organizations obtain practical concepts for workshops and further training. With a project duration of 36 months, research and demonstration projects are funded up to EUR 3.5 million at 100%. Applications from public institutions, NPOs, educational institutions, and companies with expertise in social sciences are possible until 16 September 2025; they make a decisive contribution to strengthening democratic resilience in Europe.
