Description

The Franco-German Project Development Fund supports young film producers throughout Germany in the development of first and second theatrical co-productions in collaboration with French partners. A total of €200,000 is available annually, with up to €50,000 per project, covering up to 70% of eligible expenses. Eligible to apply are companies based in Germany and France with professional film training or comparable industry experience, whose project is the applicant’s first or second feature film. Applications must be submitted simultaneously to the FFA Filmförderungsanstalt in Germany and the CNC in France; deadlines are January 22, April 20, and September 15, 2026.

Funding covers expenses for rights acquisition, author and producer fees, remuneration for the production, directing, and design teams, travel and translation costs, as well as legal advice. Additionally, costs for storyboard, design concept, or marketing concept creation, teasers/mood films, and for animation projects, graphic development and pilot film production, may be claimed. The application must include a deal memo for co-development, treatment, producer’s note, as well as contracts for co-development and rights acquisition. Following a positive decision by the Franco-German Commission, disbursement is made in two installments: 90% upon approval and project commencement, 10% after completion with final cost verification. The fund emphasizes a clear separation of the development phase and exclusively supports costs incurred after application submission and before the first shooting day, with option rights considered at any time.
