Description

The Einstein Profile Professorship is designed to attract internationally recognized leading scientists to Berlin universities and publicly funded non-university research institutions for an initial period of five years. The funding covers the professorship salary as well as resources in the form of personnel, materials, and investments. Subsequently, the State of Berlin ensures permanent continued financing through a sustainability concept. Eligible applicant institutions are the Free University of Berlin, Humboldt University of Berlin, Technical University of Berlin, Berlin University of the Arts, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin; collaborations with non-university institutes (Max Planck Society, Helmholtz Association, Leibniz and Fraunhofer Societies) are possible. The goal is to sustainably position Berlin among the international top tier, advance strategic profiling, and open up new research fields.

Eligible costs include salaries, additional personnel resources, project-specific materials, and capital-intensive major equipment (up to €500,000). Basic infrastructure, overhead and incidental costs, as well as relocation expenses are not eligible. Evaluation is based on the strategic significance for the Berlin science location, the excellence of the candidates, and the planned sustainability concept. Applications must be submitted in English via the responsible contacts of the eligible institutions and include, among other documents, the application form, financing plan, usage guidelines, interim and final report templates, the Einstein Foundation Code of Conduct, as well as guidelines on equality and diversity. Deadlines are announced on the Einstein Foundation Berlin website.
