Description
The Karl Kaus Foundation for Animals and Nature awards the nationally renowned Emmy & Karl Kaus Prize to individuals and groups who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the protection of wild animals or the improvement of living conditions for animals kept by humans. The award is endowed with a prize money of 7,500 euros and is granted at irregular intervals. Nominations can be submitted at any time and are particularly aimed at committed private individuals, non-profit organizations, interest groups, or associations. The goal is to recognize engagement in animal welfare, species conservation, environmental and climate protection, and to promote innovative approaches to the preservation of wildlife.
For the award, meaningful information about the nominated person or group as well as their professional activities is required. Evaluated are practical nature and species conservation measures, research contributions on wildlife and general animal welfare topics, journalistic work in print and media, political commitment, and innovative concepts for preserving biodiversity. The foundation’s board decides on the awarding and the amount of the prize money at its discretion according to § 7 of the statutes. Submissions are to be made informally in writing; no fixed deadlines apply. In doing so, the foundation makes a sustainable contribution to long-term animal and nature conservation at the federal level and honors exceptional achievements for the benefit of all living beings.
