Description

Within the framework of the bicycle project by the Kinderglück Foundation, children and adolescents from socially disadvantaged families in the Ruhr area are equipped with professionally refurbished bicycles, including locks, helmets, and safety vests. The goal is to promote freedom and mobility as well as to strengthen motor skills. Through guided traffic education, safe behavior in road traffic is taught from an early age, thereby enabling equal opportunities and participation in public life. The 100% funding covers all material costs for bicycles, protective equipment, and the refurbishment of donated bikes, creating a direct, sustainable benefit for the participants. Needs criteria such as residence in disadvantaged neighborhoods and the pedagogical quality of the traffic education concept are included in the content evaluation.

Funding applications can be submitted continuously by youth welfare organizations, social workers, child and youth caregivers, as well as primary schools based in North Rhine-Westphalia. A prerequisite is the non-profit status of the applying organization and activity in the child and youth sector. Simple application documents serve to verify framework conditions and proof of need. After positive feedback, an appointment is scheduled at the Kinderglück bicycle station in Dortmund, where the young cyclists can choose from various sizes. In this way, the foundation not only supports material provision but also sets impulses for equitable traffic integration, health promotion, and social participation. Committed institutions thus receive an effective tool to sustainably strengthen mobility, education, and health awareness.
