Description

The family allowance from accident insurance for institutional care supports insured persons throughout Austria who are receiving inpatient treatment as a result of a work accident or occupational disease, as well as their eligible family members. As part of this social insurance benefit, the daily family allowance ensures the financial stability of affected households during an extended accident recovery treatment. As a nationwide, continuously available subsidy, it is paid directly to the family members and is exclusively available to private individuals. The funding objective is to cushion the economic loss caused by the necessary inpatient care and thus enable the healing process without additional financial burden.

A prerequisite for granting the allowance is institutional care due to a work accident or occupational disease, as well as the presence of eligible family members (excluding kindergarten children, pupils, and students). The daily assessment is graduated per family member: 1.6% of one twelfth of the annual assessment base for the first family member, and 0.4% for each additional family member, up to a maximum of 2.8%. If there is no entitlement to family allowance, the insured persons alternatively receive a daily allowance amounting to 1% of one twelfth of the assessment base. Applications can be submitted at any time during the existence of the insurance case. The regulation is based on § 195 ASVG and is administered by the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection.
