Description
The Foundation Help for the Family – Foundation of the State of Berlin continuously grants financial subsidies to Berlin families, single parents, separated caregivers, and pregnant women in exceptional emergency situations. The aim of the funding is to secure and equip living space, provide special therapeutic and assistive devices, as well as cover therapy costs. In addition, benefits are granted for baby starter kits and, in justified individual cases, interest-free loans to bridge temporary financial crises. Eligible recipients are private individuals with permanent residence in Berlin who care for at least one economically dependent child or look after relatives with disabilities or requiring care.
A prerequisite for a grant is proof of an exceptional financial emergency and the application submission through an authorized counseling center. Eligible expenses include costs to prevent homelessness, furnishing of living space (e.g., furniture), special therapeutic and assistive devices, therapy costs, baby starter kits, and, if applicable, travel expenses. Evaluation is based on the extent of the financial emergency, concrete proof of need, and consideration of priority benefits from other providers. For application submission, the completed application form from the counseling center, proof of residence in Berlin, and documentation of the emergency (e.g., rental agreement, cost estimates, medical certificates) are required. Since applications can be submitted continuously, the funding offers flexible and rapid relief in acute distress situations.
