Description
The Rudolf Augstein Foundation supports innovative projects in Hamburg within its journalism funding area that contribute to strengthening a diverse and independent media system. Funding is provided particularly for initiatives that address the digital transformations and financial challenges facing journalism. The focus is on investigative journalism, forward-looking digital formats, and the promotion of emerging journalistic talent. As seed funding for idea and concept phases as well as project implementation, the foundation provides grants to cover personnel and material costs. Its goal is to sustainably secure journalistic infrastructure and strengthen democratic public discourse through leverage and model character.
Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations as well as companies from the media sector, social entrepreneurship, and SMEs based in Hamburg. Prior consultation as part of an application advisory process is a prerequisite for submission. Applications must include a factual summary, a detailed project description with a timeline and market analysis, information about the participants, and a detailed cost and financing plan. Documentation of non-profit status and previous reference projects must also be submitted. Selection is ongoing based on criteria such as originality and relevance of the approach, potential for structural impact, sustainability, and the expertise of those involved. Applications may be submitted at any time, allowing flexible response to current needs. Upon positive decision, the foundation supports the projects ideationally through networking and professional exchange.
