Award for Outstanding Achievements

The Ottersche Foundation for Nephrological Research awards a Research Prize for Outstanding Achievements in the field of nephrology every two years, subject to financial performance. The prize honors individuals or teams who make pioneering contributions to the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of kidney diseases through scientific publications, dissertations, innovative surgical techniques, or inventions. The aim of the prize is to support the research and development of methods for preserving kidney function, ultimately to save lives and significantly improve the quality of life for dialysis patients. Eligible nationwide are private individuals who can demonstrate their achievements at an internationally recognized level, regardless of whether they are employed full-time in research.

The jury evaluates submissions based on the quality and scope of publications, the scientific innovation content, the practical relevance of surgical procedures, and inventive achievements. Special attention is given to the potential for clinical implementation and improvement of patient care. By recognizing outstanding research projects, the prize not only promotes the visibility of novel approaches but also provides an impetus for interdisciplinary collaborations. In this way, the prize makes a sustainable contribution to strengthening nephrological research in Germany.
