Description

The BioMeth Bavaria funding program supports the establishment and conversion of environmentally friendly biogas upgrading plants as well as the construction of biogas and biomethane pipelines in Bavaria. The goal is the direct use of biogas on site and the injection of biomethane for the generation of electricity, heat, and fuel. Investment costs are subsidized at 30–40% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of €800,000 per project. This allows for the reduction of up to 9,000 tons of CO₂ per year. Applications can be submitted continuously until the budget is exhausted at the Technology and Funding Center (TFZ). Project commencement is only permitted after approval; however, planning services may be performed prior to application submission. The plants must be constructed in Bavaria and operated for a dedicated purpose over a minimum period of six years. Further requirements include, among others, a projected utilization of at least 4,380 operating hours per year, methane emissions ≤ 0.2%, and compliance with sustainable biomass standards according to EU Directive 2018/2001.

Eligible applicants include natural and legal persons under private law, partnerships, municipal authorities, foundations, research institutions, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and start-ups with a project location in Bavaria. Eligible costs include specific plant components as well as structural development, modifications of existing biogas plants, and planning services (up to 10% of investment costs). For biogas and biomethane pipelines, fixed amounts of €100 per meter of route length and €50,000 per gas transfer station are granted. With the application, a digital site plan, a cost plan, and completed annexes on CO₂ reduction and the biomass used must be submitted. The program thus offers a practical financing solution to strengthen renewable energies in Bavaria.
