Description
The funding guideline “Energy and Climate/2023 – Module 3: Intelligent Energy Systems, Grids, and Storage Systems at the Local Level” supports both capital and non-capital projects in Saxony with the aim of developing future-proof local energy systems. Measures funded include the intelligent integration and optimization of heat, cooling, and electricity grids, sector coupling, as well as the establishment of biogas and hydrogen infrastructure. Digital control and regulation solutions, process optimizations in load management, or municipal heat planning concepts are also supported. The funding rate amounts to 75 to 80 percent of eligible expenses, which include construction measures, equipment, planning, and consulting costs. Eligible applicants are companies, municipal authorities, cooperatives, foundations, non-profit organizations, and local renewable energy communities with headquarters or operations in Saxony. For capital measures, proof of a specialist planner or energy consultant is required; non-capital projects must meet specified minimum standards.
The SAB – Saxon Development Bank – as the granting authority enables continuous application submission via its online funding portal. Required documents include the project description, financing plan, and registration in the market master data register. Evaluation criteria include the degree of innovation, sustainable contribution, and grid-economic efficiency. The measure is intended to serve as a model, promote sector coupling, and contribute to climate neutrality at the municipal level. Through a flexible grid connection agreement, connection times and peak loads can be intelligently managed. Thus, Module 3 offers comprehensive funding for stakeholders aiming to implement intelligent, networked energy systems in Saxony and advance climate protection.
