Description

The Karl Kaus Foundation for Animals and Nature supports nationwide measures for the permanent or temporary retention of water in the landscape through the funding program “Water Oases”. Funding is provided, among other things, for the enhancement of existing ditch dam systems, the adaptation of current water management concepts, as well as the rewetting of formerly wet habitats – ideally with temporary flooding. Even the smallest projects can be considered, whereby, with special justification, full financing of up to 100% is possible. New constructions of water bodies by excavation are excluded. The foundation aims to strengthen biodiversity, optimize habitats, and ensure a balanced equilibrium between water surplus and water scarcity by establishing or improving natural water storage. Ongoing funding opportunities allow for flexible project planning.

Eligible applicants include private landowners, municipalities, nature conservation associations, non-profit organizations, clubs, foundations, and companies wishing to implement water-retentive or rewetting projects. A prerequisite is the readiness for implementation of the planned measure as well as ensuring its permanent continuation. With regard to ecological impact and long-term sustainability, the foundation emphasizes designing funded projects to be practical and resource-efficient. Interested project sponsors are invited to coordinate proposals individually and plan the funding rate according to their needs. Continuous consultation by the foundation is intended to ensure that innovative approaches in water management contribute effectively to landscape development and create valuable refuges for endangered species.
