Funding from the Andreas Gärtner Foundation (Donation Applications / Assistance for People with Intellectual Disabilities)

The Andreas Gärtner Foundation annually awards financial grants to individuals with intellectual disabilities in Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Schleswig-Holstein. The aim is to provide uncomplicated support for therapies, assistive devices, modifications, and social facilities. Eligible expenses include dolphin therapy, Adeli therapy, and Petö therapy, as well as disability-friendly bicycles, platform lifts, care beds, or assistance dogs. Donation requests may be submitted informally in a personal letter; the deadline for the annual decision is September/October. The foundation places great importance on ensuring that all funds reach exactly where they are needed and waives administrative costs. Disbursement of grants takes place at the beginning of December each year.

A prerequisite for a grant is proof of intellectual disability through a severe disability ID card or a recent medical report (not older than six months). The application may include copies of the birth certificate, a recent photo, a cost estimate, as well as contact details of the care facility and personal contact information. In addition to classic therapy costs, mobility aids, modification costs for barrier-free living areas, and general financial support are funded. Relatives receive the necessary planning security from the foundation to implement long-term projects and strengthen independence. The combination of an uncomplicated procedure and targeted allocation of funds makes this support a valuable assistance for people with intellectual disabilities and their environment.
