Promotion of Visual Arts

The state of Lower Austria continuously provides funding in the form of grants to support projects in contemporary visual arts within the federal state, both materially and immaterially. The aim is to create a vibrant and diverse cultural landscape and to establish Lower Austria as an important location in the national and international art scene. Funded are exhibitions and projects with a regional connection that cover various genres of visual arts – from painting and installation to photography and media art. In addition, annual programs of information galleries and art associations are subsidized to strengthen the mediation of contemporary art in the regions and to intensify cultural exchange between the public and artists.

Eligible to apply are Lower Austrian artists of contemporary visual arts as well as non-profit organizations, including information galleries and art associations, that realize a regular annual program for the presentation and mediation of modern art formats. A prerequisite for funding is the clear connection of the exhibition or project to Lower Austria. The responsible Department F1 of the Office of the Lower Austrian State Government manages and administers the funding, handles budget planning and control, thereby ensuring the smooth implementation of the projects. Through this support, artists are enabled to develop new creative concepts, implement innovative formats, and make their work known beyond the region, thereby sustainably enriching the cultural offerings in Lower Austria.
