Funding by the Edgar and Nina Kummerfeldt Foundation

The Edgar and Nina Kummerfeldt Foundation supports nonprofit organizations, foundations, associations, and public institutions nationwide that implement innovative projects for a self-determined life of elderly and impaired individuals within their neighborhoods. The focus is on measures and aids to promote independence in old age, contemporary living arrangements for people aged 60 and over, as well as neighborhood-based networks that strengthen mutual assistance and civic engagement. The spectrum is complemented by preventive offerings to maintain physical and mental health, as well as practical assistive solutions (AAL) that facilitate daily care routines and establish sustainable support systems locally. Funding is provided as a grant, with new applications only considered for projects starting from January 1, 2028.

Eligible for funding are initiatives and nonprofit organizations whose projects align with the foundation’s objectives: creating tailored living and care structures as well as conditions for mutual support through self-help and civic engagement. Applications must be submitted with the following documents: a detailed description of the planned activity or project and the relevant contact information of the applicants. Since funds for 2026 and 2027 are already allocated, interested parties should observe the deadline for funding starting in 2028 and prepare their documents early. Selection is made by the board, with no legal entitlement to funding. With a view to inclusive neighborhood development and sustainable community structures, this support opens up diverse opportunities for forward-looking concepts in aging and neighborhood contexts.
