Description

The Cultural Foundation of the German States supports art and cultural-historical exhibition, acquisition, and restoration projects nationwide in publicly accessible museums, libraries, and archives. The aim is to secure, preserve, and communicate objects and collections of regional rootedness and international significance to a broad public. Grants can be applied for proportionally for the acquisition of cultural assets, conservation and restoration measures, as well as costs related to exhibition organization and mediation. Particular emphasis is placed on the scientific quality of the concept, sustainable impact, and target group-oriented communication. Projects taking place exclusively abroad or concerning the initial setup or reconception of permanent exhibitions are excluded from funding.

Eligible to apply are all publicly accessible German museums, libraries, and archives that conduct a mandatory consultation meeting prior to application. Digital submission is to be made with a completed application form, proof of the consultation meeting, a detailed project description, and a financing plan. Decision criteria include, among others, the significance of the project for cultural heritage, regional anchoring with international relevance, as well as sustainable impact and long-term use. Applications can be submitted by December 15, 2026, and June 15, 2027, respectively. Interested institutions benefit from partial financial support that has the potential to preserve art and cultural-historical treasures and successfully present them to the public.
