Description

The Palatine Catholic Church Foundation in Heidelberg offers continuous support for construction and renovation measures on churches and parsonages in the formerly Electoral Palatinate part of Baden through the supplementary funding guidelines for burdened buildings. Public ecclesiastical legal entities that are owners or obligated builders of these listed buildings can receive grants covering up to 50% of the recognized costs. The funding includes the preservation and repair of the building fabric, ensuring traffic safety, as well as repairs or renewals of technical systems (such as heating, electrical installations, bell systems). Contributions to building insurance and proportional acquisitions of church furnishings may also be considered. Energy-efficient renovations are possible, provided economic viability is demonstrated. Non-eligible costs include property tax, allocable operating costs, installation of non-essential technical systems (e.g., photovoltaics), leasing or rental costs, as well as consumables and user-owned equipment.

A positive technical assessment by Main Department 9 of the Archdiocesan Ordinariate Freiburg is a prerequisite for approval-required measures. Funding applications may be submitted at any time – for grants exceeding €100,000, meeting deadlines apply until March 31 (summer session) and September 30 (winter session) of the supervisory board. The application must include a detailed project description with plans, a justification of the construction measure, a schedule and cost plan including a financing proposal, proof of project approval, and for larger amounts, photographic documentation. The foundation decides on the amount and scope of grants on a case-by-case basis and prioritizes the requirement of own funds and alternative funding. Participants thus benefit from reliable support for the preservation of historic church buildings and parsonages in Baden-Württemberg.
