Description
The Technical Relief Foundation (THW) – Technically Helping Worldwide continuously supports innovative initiatives that strengthen the capabilities of civil and disaster protection. It is aimed at public institutions and non-profit organizations throughout Germany, particularly at the volunteer THW helpers and the youth work of THW-Jugend e. V. Projects are funded in the areas of equipment, training, international aid, disaster prevention, resilience, research, child and youth development, women’s advancement, agriculture, and rural development. Financial grants for personnel and material costs support measures that align with the statutory purposes of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief. Special attention is given to flagship projects that are endorsed by a positive statement from the responsible state helper association or the THW-Jugend.
Funding applications can be submitted at any time; allocations are made during board meetings held three to four times a year. Applicants must submit a fully completed form including a project description (1,000–3,000 characters), an explanation of how the funding criteria are met, a detailed cost estimate, and a written statement from the supervising THW authority. Projects without a THW connection, individual case assistance, full financing requests, as well as publications or construction measures outside the defined thematic clusters are excluded from funding. Upon approval, recipients receive a letter of commitment with conditions, followed by a usage report in the form of a factual report and a cost and financing statement. In this way, the THW Foundation contributes to sustainably increasing the operational readiness, innovative strength, and resilience of disaster protection both nationally and internationally.
