Description

The Foundation for Environment and Development North Rhine-Westphalia supports non-profit projects that strengthen civic engagement in the areas of environment and sustainable development. The focus of the funding work is on information and educational activities, with particular emphasis on the concepts of Education for Sustainable Development and Global Learning. With its mandate to support the implementation of Agenda 21 as well as the global goals for sustainable development, the funding program is primarily aimed at organizations planning innovative measures to reach new target groups in North Rhine-Westphalia. The projects are intended not only to achieve short-term effects but also to bring about sustainable changes beyond the immediate funding period.

The funding covers a broad spectrum of areas such as environmental protection, climate protection, vocational training and further education, as well as energy efficiency. Applications can be submitted in two categories: for smaller projects with a funding amount of up to €10,000, continuous application submission is possible, while applications with higher funding amounts are evaluated at fixed deadlines. A grant of up to 80% of eligible expenses is granted, with the applicant organizations required to provide a minimum co-financing share of 20%. Eligible costs include, among others, construction and investment costs, fees, personnel costs, and material expenses.

The application process is characterized by transparency and efficiency. Applicants must submit, in addition to a well-founded project description, a detailed financing plan and other required documents – such as the checklist for application submission and proof of eligibility documents. The evaluation criteria are based on sustainable aspects, a clear definition of the target group, and the expected impacts of the project. Through the two-stage procedure, in which the eligibility of applications is first reviewed, it is ensured that only eligible and goal-oriented projects are considered. Thus, the Foundation offers an attractive opportunity to set long-term impulses for a sustainable future in North Rhine-Westphalia.
