Description
The state of Salzburg supports the construction, expansion, and optimization of biomass local heating systems with a direct subsidy. Funding is provided for biomass heating plants, heat distribution networks, and ancillary facilities such as fuel storage, drying, and logistics facilities that predominantly sell heat to third parties. The objective is the efficient use of renewable, biogenic energy sources (e.g., wood, biogas) to create new income, employment, and regional value-added pathways in rural areas. The funding rate is 25% up to a maximum of 40% of the eligible project costs; applications must be submitted before the start of construction or the first legally binding order. The guideline is effective from 01.03.2026 without a time limit and is aligned with the climate protection goals of the SALZBURG 2050 strategy, which aims for climate neutrality, energy autonomy, and sustainability.
Eligible applicants include companies, non-profit organizations, interest groups, and associations with a business orientation, as well as denominational institutions in the state of Salzburg. A positive evaluation of the application before the start of construction, proof of fulfillment of milestones I and II of the QM heating plant, and submission of original documents addressed to the applicant, which are factually and spatially assignable, are prerequisites. The funding application must include a fully completed application form, planning documents, and all required official permits and approval notices. Payment is made in installments according to the availability of funds; partial billing is possible after coordination. Further information can be found at the Office of the Salzburg State Government, Department of Energy Economics and Consulting.
