Description
The Funding for Follow-up Projects of the German Film Award supports small production companies nationwide whose film project has been nominated or awarded at the German Film Award. As a non-repayable grant, it enables the production or preparation of further German feature film projects with a minimum length of 79 minutes (children’s films from 59 minutes). The funds strengthen the artistic and cultural diversity of the German film industry and increase the innovative capacity of national productions. Applicants benefit from financial relief in the development of new material, screenplay work, pre-production, and realization of future feature films, provided the follow-up project has not yet begun and a regular theatrical premiere screening is planned for at least seven consecutive days in Germany.
For an application, at least 6 weeks before the project start must be observed, and the project must be submitted within two years after the award recognition. A 5 percent own contribution to the total budget as well as proof of German cultural imprint are prerequisites. Essential documents include a one-page short description, the German screenplay (or treatment/storyboard for documentary and animated films), a detailed financing plan with own contribution calculation, preliminary budget and financing proofs, as well as a closed rights chain. Furthermore, lists of crew and cast, company profile, director’s filmography, commercial register excerpt or business registration, tax certificate, and a distribution concept must be attached. The application is submitted electronically via the federal portal of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM), followed by administrative processing by the Film Funding Agency (FFA). A prompt review within four to six weeks ensures timely fund disbursement and the realization of inspiring follow-up projects.
