Description
The funding of municipal water supply systems in Styria supports public institutions, cooperatives, non-profit organizations, and companies in investments in drinking water supply. From 01.01.2026 onwards, applications for the construction of water catchment, storage, and treatment facilities as well as for the renovation of existing supply systems can be submitted continuously. Also funded are related planning and construction supervision services, restoration after natural disasters, as well as the dismantling and rehabilitation of artesian wells. The funding is divided into a state subsidy of 7%–10% and a federal funding of 10%–25% of the eligible investment costs. Renovation measures can additionally be increased by up to 2% (population index) and up to 10% (special state interest), which promotes the modernization of municipal water networks and ensures a secure drinking water supply in the long term.
A prerequisite for a grant is a complete funding application prior to the start of construction as well as proof of the most economically advantageous variant, reasonable fee rates, and cost coverage below 150%. Eligible expenses include the initial construction and renovation of all water management facilities, planning and construction supervision services, as well as restoration measures after storm damage. The evaluation considers the income tax index, the population index, and a special state interest. Applications can be submitted at any time, enabling municipal authorities, water cooperatives, and other enterprises to promptly benefit from financial support and to expand their infrastructure in a future-proof manner.
