Description
The state funding for photovoltaic systems on green roofs in Vienna supports private and legal applicants as well as companies and non-profit organizations in the installation of grid-connected solar systems with at least 500 full-load hours per year. Funding is provided for modules, substructures, installation, piping, metering equipment, as well as planning and consulting services for systems with a capacity of 1 kWp and above. A minimum distance of 20 cm between the substrate surface and the panel underside, as well as the implementation or detailed description of greening measures on the roof, are prerequisites. Applications can be submitted online on an ongoing basis from May 4, 2026, at Kommunalkredit Public Consulting GmbH. The photovoltaic system must be implemented within 24 months after the funding approval, whereby work may already begin at the applicant’s own risk upon submission of the application.
The funding amount is calculated either as a flat-rate grant of €400 per kWp up to 100 kWp, €350 per kWp above that, or as 30% of the eligible costs, minus the revenues from the first five years. A maximum of €100,000 per system is granted. To submit an application, a quote from a specialist company, calculation of full-load hours, proof of greening, and a photo ID or ID Austria authentication are required. The funding can be combined with other state or federal subsidies, provided the limits of the De-minimis Regulation are observed.
