Funding of prevention measures to protect against damage caused by beavers

The Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Consumer Protection (MLEUV) Brandenburg supports investment prevention measures to prevent damage to public infrastructure, fishpond operations, and valuable trees caused by beavers. Applicants from the public or private sector – whether an authority, a company, a non-profit organization, or a private individual – can apply for a grant starting from a minimum expenditure of €500. The aim of the funding is to create acceptance of beavers among the population and to enable a conflict-free coexistence of humans and animals. The funding guideline, effective since March 26, 2025, is valid until December 31, 2026; applications can be submitted until this date.

Various technical protective devices are funded, including individual tree protection with coatings or wire mesh, dam drainage, sealing walls, stone layers and gravel barriers on embankments, as well as grid systems for culverts. Fixed and electric fences as well as security measures at the inlets and outlets of pond systems are also subsidized. A prerequisite is the implementation of the measures in Brandenburg, compliance with the guideline, and the complete submission of the necessary documents – including the application form for prevention measures, the declaration on de minimis aid, and the declaration on company difficulties. Interested parties can receive professional advice from the State Office for the Environment and submit their applications to the Funding Department of the State Office for Rural Development, Agriculture and Land Consolidation. This initiative strengthens agriculture and rural development, promotes nature and water protection, and contributes to greater energy efficiency and climate protection in the region.
