Description
The promotion of preventive measures to protect against damage caused by beavers in Brandenburg is aimed at natural persons as well as legal entities under public and private law. The goal is to prevent damage to public infrastructure, pond management, and valuable trees, as well as to strengthen societal acceptance of beavers and foster a low-conflict coexistence. Funded investments include individual tree protection with coatings or wire mesh, dam drainage, steel mats, retaining walls, stone layers and gravel barriers, grate protection for culverts, as well as fixed and electric fences. Planning and consulting costs of up to 20% of eligible expenses can also be considered. The guideline is valid until December 31, 2026; however, due to budgetary constraints, there is currently a suspension of applications.
Eligible for funding are private individuals, companies of all sizes, and public institutions with a confirmed professional endorsement from the official beaver officers as well as the required permits and documentation (e.g., proof of ownership, building permit). The grant is provided as a subsidy and covers up to 100% of eligible costs (up to a maximum of 80% for municipalities). Flood protection measures, operational and consequential costs, as well as non-cash contributions, are excluded. Approval is based on the available budget and is granted at the discretion of the competent authority.
