Description
The funding program of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia supports the installation and expansion of thermal solar systems for hot water preparation, space heating, or cooling generation in existing and new buildings. Eligible applicants include private individuals, condominium owners, freelancers, companies of any legal form, municipal authorities, public law corporations, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, associations, and cooperatives. A fixed amount of €90 per square meter of gross collector area is granted, with a minimum collector area of 4 m² and a maximum of 1 m² per 10 m² of heated area allowed. The solar collectors must bear the European test mark “Solar Keymark,” have a minimum annual yield of 525 kWh/m², and be professionally installed by a specialist company. Eligible expenses include installation, planning, test reports, as well as heat meters and installation costs; self-built systems, repairs without new installation, and the acquisition of real estate are not eligible for funding.
The application can be submitted online via the NRW funding portal until June 30, 2027, subject to available budget funds. Essential requirements, in addition to the Solar Keymark, include compliance with the relevant DIN standards (EN 12975, EN 12976, EN 12977), listing in the BAFA program, and a specialist contractor declaration. By entering a PIN code sent via email, up to ten systems can be applied for in a single form. During the process, the granting authority reviews the completeness of the documents (project description, cost estimate, certificate, contractor declaration, treasurer’s declaration) and issues a funding approval notice. After implementation, a proof of use is sufficient to claim the grant. Through this funding, the program makes a significant contribution to increasing energy efficiency, utilizing renewable energies, and reducing CO₂ emissions in North Rhine-Westphalia.
