Description
The promotion of heat and cold storage supports private, commercial, and municipal building users in North Rhine-Westphalia in the installation of state-of-the-art latent heat and ice storage systems. The program is permanently open until June 30, 2027, and allows for co-financing of up to 25% of eligible expenses, with a maximum of 100,000 euros per measure. Eligible applicants include, in addition to private individuals (such as condominium owners' associations), municipalities, districts, public institutions, companies of all sizes, non-profit organizations, cooperatives, foundations, and interest groups. A registered office or location in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as the submission of a detailed system description are required. Funding is provided for the acquisition and installation of brand-new storage systems, consulting and planning services, as well as monitoring measures to increase efficiency and contribute to climate protection in both existing and new buildings.
Applications are submitted continuously online via the NRW funding portal, starting from May 20, 2025. The application must include, among other things, a cost estimate or offer, the detailed project and system description, and an online PIN code requested by email. Upon positive review, a funding approval notice will be issued, and the requested measure may only be commissioned after its receipt. Following implementation, proof of use can be submitted via the online portal, and the disbursement of funds can be triggered. Evaluation is based on economic efficiency, climate protection contribution, and degree of innovation to actively advance the heat transition in North Rhine-Westphalia.
