Description
In Vorarlberg, the state promotes renovation and maintenance measures in the field of regional cultural water management with a total budget of 3.5 million euros. The goal is to stabilize landslide slopes and to sustainably restore or ecologically improve existing drainage systems. New installations may only be constructed outside ecologically sensitive wetlands. The subsidy covers investment costs, material costs for engineering consultants and experts, land acquisition costs, as well as non-cash own contributions. With funding rates between 50% and 100%, measures primarily aimed at flood protection are supported, which simultaneously preserve soil fertility and secure near-natural cultural landscapes.
Eligible applicants include water cooperatives, water associations, land consolidation communities, owners of agriculturally used land, micro-enterprises, SMEs, as well as municipalities in Vorarlberg. An informal written application to the Water Management Department is sufficient once financing is proven and all official permits are obtained. The allocation of funds is made according to availability in the state budget without a legal entitlement to funding. Applicants must demonstrate principles of thriftiness, cost-effectiveness, and appropriateness and disclose existing applications to other agencies. Continuous application opportunities since June 2017 facilitate the planning of rural infrastructure projects and strengthen cultural landscape development in Vorarlberg.
