Research and Early Career Support (Iris and Hartmut Jürgens Foundation – Chance for a New Life)

The funding from the Iris and Hartmut Jürgens Foundation – Chance for a New Life is aimed at projects and individuals dedicated to medical research for the diagnosis and treatment of severe chronic or life-threatening diseases, while simultaneously promoting social engagement for people in precarious life situations. In particular, students, doctoral candidates, and early-career researchers at universities and research institutions can apply for grants, scholarships, or study awards. Additionally, publications and conferences are supported to strengthen scientific exchange and the transfer of innovative findings. Another focus lies on initiatives and individuals committed to the reception and integration of refugees or the use of new technologies to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. Applications are evaluated based on their alignment with the foundation’s purpose, degree of innovation, as well as social relevance and sustainability.

Applications can be submitted nationwide at any time by educational institutions, private individuals, and non-profit organizations via an online form. The maximum funding amount is €5,000 per application. To apply, a brief project description, a justification for funding, and a curriculum vitae must be submitted. The decision is based on the demonstrated scientific added value as well as the contribution to social integration and equal opportunities. Through the continuous awarding of grants, the foundation helps to strengthen research and early-career researchers and to provide refugees with a perspective for a new life.
