Eligible applicants include educational institutions, companies, public institutions, as well as non-profit organizations. Funding is granted for research projects aimed at the development and validation of animal-free methods, as well as projects to improve existing alternative procedures. Additionally, the foundation promotes scientific communication through publications, conferences, seminars, and supports training and continuing education measures related to the 3Rs. The focus is on practical solutions that can be implemented in industrial and university laboratories and provide tangible added value for animal and environmental protection.
Type of funding: Grant of up to €300,000 per project for actual costs (personnel and material expenses). Investment costs and overhead are excluded. Applications can be submitted at any time. A positive evaluation by the Scientific Advisory Board requires demonstrable professional qualifications of the applicants, availability of necessary laboratory facilities and personnel capacities, as well as a clear 3R relevance of the research project. Evaluation criteria include the quality of the methodological approach, the level of innovation of the replacement or complementary methods, and the implementation potential in the scientific and regulatory environment. With an uncomplicated, pragmatic funding practice, Stiftung set promotes interdisciplinary cooperation and contributes to sustainably anchoring alternative methods in research and teaching.
