Description
The German Foundation for Peace Research supports original and exploratory research projects in peace and conflict studies through two open formats: The Profile Project allows a standard duration of up to 30 months and a funding volume of up to €190,000, while the Pilot Project, designed as an explicitly exploratory format, delivers initial results within 12 months with funding up to €75,000. The aim is to freely choose disciplinary or interdisciplinary research questions, open up new perspectives, and prepare findings for science, politics, and society. Researchers with a completed doctorate or equivalent scientific qualification at universities, non-university institutions, or non-profit research organizations in Germany may submit applications for personnel positions (65% ETV, TVöD/TVL 13), material and travel expenses, as well as workshops and publications. Projects are evaluated on fixed dates (May 2, November 1) based on four core criteria – scientific relevance, research design, professional qualification, and knowledge transfer potential – as well as four additional criteria (promotion of early-career researchers, cooperation, interdisciplinarity, diversity).
Applications are submitted electronically via the online form and include a cover letter, a one-page summary, a full proposal (max. 20 pages for Profile, 10 pages for Pilot), a detailed budget plan, CVs (max. 2 pages per person), and a list of project-relevant publications. Eligible expenses cover personnel, material and travel costs, workshops, and editorial services for print and digital publications; overhead and program flat rates are excluded. With the help of additional follow-up funding, supported Profile Projects can be expanded to include networking, transfer, or conference components. The Foundation aims for sustainable impact, thereby particularly enabling young researchers to implement interdisciplinary, networked research approaches and effectively transfer knowledge.
