Description

The start-up grant from the Public Employment Service (AMS) in Austria supports unemployed founders in the critical initial phase of their self-employment. Designed as a subsidy, it secures the livelihood for the first two months after the commencement of compulsory insurance (GSVG or BSVG). Since sufficient market revenues are usually not yet generated at the beginning of the business start-up, this funding provides a stable foundation for market entry and the realization of the business idea. Applications can be submitted continuously, allowing founders to flexibly choose the optimal time to start the funding. Eligible are individuals who are registered as unemployed at the beginning of the preparatory phase, have a concrete business idea, and possess the necessary professional qualifications. The project duration is exactly two months, during which only expenses for living costs are funded.

The start-up grant is part of the broader business start-up program of the AMS, which, in addition to securing livelihood, also offers consulting and qualification services. Participants benefit from individual support during the clarification and preparation phase as well as the opportunity to complete necessary training. The aim of the funding is the sustainable establishment of young companies and the reduction of unemployment through increased labor market participation. Thanks to nationwide uniform allocation criteria, the funding enables all qualified prospective founders across Austria to access financial security in an unbureaucratic manner. Applications can be submitted online at any time or at an AMS office, ensuring a fast and uncomplicated process.
