Description

Flood Protection in Vienna supports effective measures on all water bodies – with the exception of the Danube, March, and Thaya – to protect settlement and economic areas. Public institutions as well as cooperatives can receive grants for construction, maintenance, and operational measures, planning and project documentation, land acquisition, replacement, and emergency measures. Research projects as well as planning and construction supervision are also eligible expenses. The primary objective is to minimize interventions in the waterbody surroundings and to preserve or improve the ecological condition. Priority is given to particularly vulnerable areas with high damage potential, such as settlement centers, essential infrastructure facilities, and valuable cultural assets. Budget funds amounting to approximately 115 million euros are continuously available until the volume is exhausted.

Applications are submitted exclusively through the Water Engineering Department of the state on behalf of the beneficiaries and must comply with the Technical Guidelines for Hydraulic Engineering (TRL-WB) as well as the Implementation Provisions (DFB 2020). Assessment criteria include damage potential, completeness of documentation, ecological guidelines, and waterbody condition. The following documents must be attached: form "Funding Application" (including location and controlling data), "Project Approval Checklist," "Funding Calculation" with documentation, proof of participation BMLRT, complete project (TRL-WB 2023) in PDF, approval notices, appraisal reports, press information, photos with image rights form. Applications can be submitted at any time until funds are exhausted. Payments are made through the state, with acceptance and accounting within defined deadlines. Interested funding applicants among local authorities and water associations can find all forms and further information in the transparency portal of the Federal Ministry under reference number 1025584.
