Description

Human genetic testing for uninsured individuals provides financial relief for people in Vienna who do not have health insurance coverage. This program is funded as a grant by the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection and is aimed at companies and public institutions conducting the relevant tests. The objective is to cover the costs of human genetic diagnostics – from chromosome analyses to molecular genetic tests – to support early detection and prevention of genetically determined diseases. The funding makes a valuable contribution to maintaining public health and serves as a bridge between medical necessity and financial feasibility for those affected.

Eligible for funding are uninsured persons according to § 4 of the ordinance of the Federal Minister of Health on priority measures for the preservation of public health (Federal Law Gazette No. 274/1981). This includes individuals suspected of having genetically determined diseases or chromosomal anomalies, as well as parents planning to have children or those in existing pregnancies with certain risk factors (for example, age > 35 in women or family history). Companies and public institutions may submit applications at any time, as the funding opportunity is ongoing. Only costs for human genetic testing are reimbursable. This grant offers straightforward and sustainable support for those who rely on vital genetic analysis without insurance coverage.
