Description
The Klaus Tschira Foundation gGmbH supports nonprofit organizations, public and educational institutions, as well as foundations throughout Germany and Austria that implement projects in the natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science. The funding offer is aimed at tax-privileged corporations, state or state-recognized universities, and non-university research institutions based in the German-speaking region that are active in the fields of research, education, and science communication. Eligible to apply are institutions from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Funding is provided exclusively in the form of an uncomplicated grant, which is disbursed following a positive evaluation. The funds are earmarked and intended to have a sustainable impact. In addition to scientific excellence, broad networking, realistic time and financial planning, as well as clear, measurable milestones are expected. Particular emphasis is placed on evaluation results, environmental compatibility, and the diversity of the project team.
The procedure is continuously open and conducted in multiple stages via a central funding portal. Organizations initially submit a concise preliminary application, which is reviewed based on a transparent evaluation matrix. Upon positive initial assessment, a virtual pitch or a written full proposal may be requested, in which the detailed project description is elaborated. Applications in the funding areas of education and science communication must be submitted in German, while research proposals must be submitted in English. Exclusions apply to private individuals, competition entries, theses, and clinical studies. Upon approval, applicants receive a written grant notification including the terms and conditions of the award as well as documents for fund requisition and proof of use. Public relations for funded projects are coordinated with the foundation’s communications team.
