The Dr. Joachim and Hanna Schmidt Foundation for Environment and Transport funds projects nationwide that reconcile conflicts between transport infrastructure, mobility, and nature conservation. As a grant provider, the foundation supports initiatives in the fields of environmental/nature conservation, traffic ecology, smart cities & regions, energy efficiency & climate protection, as well as digitalization. Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, research institutions, start-ups, founders, private individuals, companies, and public institutions that contribute to environmentally sound transport policy with innovative concepts. Additionally, doctoral projects can be supported with a monthly grant of €1,500.

Applications must be submitted as a PDF via email and include a two-page application form along with explanations on up to four additional pages, including a budget framework (maximum file size 2 MB). Applications must be received at least 21 days before the two annual board meetings and allow for a lead time of three months before the planned project start. Through continuous calls, project sponsors can flexibly choose dates and tailor their application outline specifically to the funding guidelines. This clear structuring facilitates planning and ensures transparent decision-making processes. With its commitment, the foundation offers actors from the environmental and transport sectors a valuable funding opportunity to sustainably advance forward-looking mobility solutions and nature conservation measures.
