Description
Since 2013, the state of Carinthia has honored outstanding compositional achievements every two years with the International Nikolaus Fheodoroff Composition Prize. Established in memory of Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Fheodoroff, the award promotes a contemporary musical language and deliberately relies on anonymously submitted entries. Private individuals from around the world are invited to submit a single work in the announced category. The award is granted by an independent expert jury that equally recognizes innovative sound concepts and technical precision. A unanimous jury decision may withhold the award or distribute the prize money proportionally among several recipients.
Eligible to participate are composers without age or nationality restrictions. Application requirements include a public call for submissions, a completed and signed online form, as well as a curriculum vitae. One work (score and accompanying commentary) must be submitted anonymously to ensure an unbiased evaluation. Submissions are accepted continuously, as the prize is awarded biennially without a fixed deadline. This procedure aims to create creative freedom and introduce new impulses in music creation. Organizational responsibility lies with Department 14 – Arts and Culture in the Office of the Carinthian State Government.
