Description
The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) benefits from a permanent grant funding, which has been endowed annually with €353,000 since January 1, 2013. The aim of this funding is to fully cover the monthly personnel costs of the IUFRO Secretariat in Vienna. By providing stable resources, a reliable personnel structure is ensured that plans, coordinates, and implements international forest science projects. The grants support the ongoing research and innovation work as well as the exchange between experts in the fields of forest ecology, sustainable forestry, and climate protection in the long term.
Eligible for funding are non-profit interest groups and associations based in Austria, specifically the International Union of Forest Research Organizations as the holder of the Secretariat. A prerequisite for receiving the funds is the conclusion of a funding agreement with the Republic of Austria. The requested expenses are limited to personnel costs, which must be documented by payroll statements and settled by March 31 of the following year at the latest. Since this is an ongoing funding opportunity, recipients with an existing contract can continuously benefit from the support. The transparent allocation is carried out by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism (Department III 5) and relies on close cooperation between the public sector and the scientific community.
