Description

The Kant World Citizen Award of the Immanuel Kant Foundation "Europe's Heritage as a Mission" honors courageous, incorruptible, and constructive public engagement in the spirit of a Kantian world citizen ethos. Nationwide, private individuals, non-profit organizations, and public institutions can be nominated for their commitment in areas such as peace, human rights, the rule of law, environmental and climate protection, education, media freedom, or social justice. The aim is to recognize initiatives and projects that advance central societal issues through exemplary civil courage and impactful media representation. Nominations with a one- to two-page justification can be submitted at any time to enhance the public recognition of outstanding contributions.

For a successful nomination, personal civil courage, a high potential for impact through media conveyance, and compliance with the non-profit criteria (§ 52 AO) are decisive. Both theoretical and practical approaches to strengthening a world citizen ethos are supported, especially in ethically grounded resistance against grievances. With this, the foundation emphasizes its commitment to sustainably promoting social cohesion and democratic culture in Europe. Informal submissions without deadline enable all interested parties to bring potential awardees into the public spotlight and present their forward-looking ideas.
