Description

The “Children and Youth Award 2026” of the Children and Youth Foundation General Consul Manfred O. Schröder and Helga Schröder honors committed Dortmund residents from 5th grade up to 21 years of age who strengthen the common good in their city through their own volunteer-led projects. A total prize fund of €4,000 is available, which must be used for the projects: 1st prize €2,000, 2nd prize €1,200, and 3rd prize €800, with additional special awards possible. An expert jury evaluates all submissions based on fulfillment of the foundation’s purpose, personal commitment, innovative and exemplary character, sustainability, and the broad impact of the projects. Application materials include a data sheet for individuals or groups, a letter of motivation, a detailed project description, and optional supplementary materials such as press reports or flyers.

Eligible to participate are all Dortmund residents between 5th grade and 21 years of age who volunteer their time and effort without compensation in the fields of education, environmental, nature or climate protection, culture, music, sports, work & social affairs, energy efficiency & climate protection, or other societal areas. The foundation aims to promote initiative and responsible action among young people in realizing their own ideas for democracy, cohesion, and sustainable development. Applications must be submitted by email by 09.09.2026. This award encourages the advancement of projects that benefit the Dortmund community in the long term and sends a strong signal about the importance of youth participation and creativity in the region.
